I don't know. We just learned this quirk today. We will have to experiment with different hats. He also doesn't like Kyla coming in the house wearing her skates, which make her very tall.

When Charlie wore his helmet, Shaggy didn't mind, and still seemed to know that it was Charlie.

When I was growing up, we always had at least 2 dogs. There was always one who hated men with hats. They never seemed to mind ladies, but were extremely aggressive until the men took their hats off.

One of the two dogs we adopted from a shelter, also has similar issues. Also, men in work boots, big engine cars driving by, and bicycles. She's got a ton of "issues" that we've been working for 6 years to break her of. Sometimes successfully, many times not. But from this we've been able to piece together some of her history (she was abused and neglected in her previous life before our house).
